In 2016 alone, over 40 mil­lion peo­ple were vic­tims of mod­ern slav­ery (ILO, IOM). Out of all these instances of human traf­fick­ing, only 0.01% of cas­es end in a con­vic­tion (Kevin Hyland). We will focus on the gap between the cur­rent state of the law on human traf­fick­ing, and its imple­men­ta­tion in practice.
