In 2016 alone, over 40 million people were victims of modern slavery (ILO, IOM). Out of all these instances of human trafficking, only 0.01% of cases end in a conviction (Kevin Hyland). We will focus on the gap between the current state of the law on human trafficking, and its implementation in practice.

From 2010, Head for the establishment of the Metropolitan Police Human Trafficking response in UK and from 2014 to May 2018, first Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner for the UK government, from 2018, Ireland’s representative to the Council of Europe Independent Group of Experts for Trafficking (GRETA)
